Novack Properlp
510 Place
Evereft, Wa.
4.2 Site Preaaration
99-11-10
The driveway prisms and areas to be graded or that will receive fill should be
stripped of brush, dense root accumulations, and any undocumented fill or organics
prior to placing any fill or surfacing material. Based on our subsurface explorations,
we estimate that the stripping effort should be on the order of 0.33 to 0.5 feet over
most of the site.
The native subgrade soil that covers most of the site contains a large percentage of
silt and will be highly susceptible to disturbance when damp or wet. It is preferable
to perform the site work including stripping during the warm, dry summer months.
However, stripping could take place during the spring months as long as proper
erosions control measures are put into place prior to starting work.
Areas excavated to design or subgrade elevations or areas which are to receive
structural fill should be proof -rolled with a roller to a firm, non -yielding condition if
they are near their optimum moisture level. We recommend that pre -rolling be
accomplished such that the upper 6 inches of the exposed non -organic soil is
compacted to a density of at least 95 percent of the laboratory maximum, using the
modified Proctor metbod (ASTM D-1557) as the density standard. If the subgrade
is more than 2 percent above the optimum moisture content, adequate compaction of
the site soils may be difficult or impossible to achieve.
9 GES, Inc.
