Novack Property
510 Place
Evereft, Wa.
99-11-10
backfill should consist only of free draining granular material. If the backfilled walls
are structurally restrained from lateral movement at the top, we recommend that the
walls be designed for an equivalent weight of 50 pounds per cubic foot (pcf) to
represent at rest pressure. If the tops of the walls are free to move laterally by an
amount equal to at least 0.1 percent of the wall height, they may be designed for
active conditions using an equivalent fluid pressure of 35 pcf. Surcharges due to
sloping ground, adjacent footings, vehicles, construction equipment, etc., must be
added to these values. Only light hand-held vibratory equipment should be used to
compact soil within 5 feet of all walls and foundations.
For modeling under seismic conditions, we recommend that a dynamic rectangular
pressure increment be added to the static equivalent fluid pressure as stated
previously in this report.
4.8 Run-off, Drainase and Erosion Control Considerations
Due to the dense, generally impermeable nature of the underlying till across the
site, we expect that surface run-off will be high. Adequate erosion/siltation control
measures should be installed during construction activities. These control measures
could include any applicable combination of the following methods; siltation
fences, controlled drainage through the construction area, run-off filtration through
straw bales and limiting clearing and disturbance of surficial soil outside of the
immediate construction area.
18 GES, Inc.
