SECTION 01575 <br />HAZARDOUS AND CONTAMINATED SUBSTANCE HEALTH AND SAFETY <br />presence or potential for unknown hazardous and/or contaminated substances <br />covered under Section 02110, Excavation and Handling of Contaminated Material. <br />b.) Responsible for the development, implementation, enforcement, and monitoring of <br />the Hazardous and Contaminated Substance Health and Safety Program for the <br />Project and the HCSHSP. <br />c.) Responsible for conducting the pre -construction indoctrination, Pre -Entry <br />Briefings, and other periodic training of on -site personnel with regard to contents <br />of the HCSHSP and other safety requirements to be observed during construction. <br />d.) Responsible for performing air monitoring as required by the HCSHSP. <br />C. Authority: The CIH and the SSHO shall have the authority to: <br />Suspend field activities if health and safety of Contractor personnel, Sound Transit <br />personnel, other crews working in the project construction area, or the public are <br />endangered. <br />2. Suspend individuals from field activities due to infractions of the HCSHSP. <br />D. Certifications <br />The CIH and SSHO shall have current certifications in accordance with their required <br />qualifications. <br />2. Contractor and subcontractor personnel assigned for the purpose of performing or <br />supervising hazardous materials work in accordance with the provisions of the <br />HCSHSP, above Level D protection, shall have received appropriate safety training in <br />compliance with 29 CFR 1910,120, 29 GFR 1910.134, and WAC 296-62. Minimum of <br />forty (40) hours health and safety training, twenty-four (24) hours of 'on the job" <br />training, eight (8) hours annual refresher training and annual medical monitoring by an <br />occupational physician is required. Minimum of eight (8) hours additional specialized <br />training in managing hazardous waste operations is required for supervisory personnel. <br />Workers without current certification shall not be allowed to enter the Exclusion Zone. <br />Comply with the medical surveillance program requirements of OSHA standard 29 CFR <br />1910.120, 29 CFR 190.134, and WAC 296-62-300. Provide documentation that <br />personnel have received medical examinations and are certified for respirator use (if <br />necessary), within the last twelve (12) months, and are cleared to work on hazardous <br />sites before entering an Exclusion Zone or contacting hazardous materials. <br />Meetings: The SSHO shall conduct daily and weekly health and safety meetings with the <br />workers throughout the duration of all hazardous substance work. The SSHO should <br />discuss each day's activities and associated health and safety issues with the workers and <br />address concerns and issues that the workers may have.
