ATTACHMENT A TO SECTION 01900 <br />REVISIONS TO THE S7ANDARD PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS <br />Unsuitable soils as de',r.ed in the tollowing supplement to Section 2-03.1 of ihe Standard <br />Specifications excavated from the site shall be placed in stockpiles, on plastic, for testing as <br />described below. Stockpiles shall be placed in locations and tested in such a manner as to not <br />inhibit the Coniractor irom continuing the work on schedule. <br />Contaminated waste material shall be disposed of at a Subtitle D landfill. Characterization ot the <br />waste was performed during previous studies; no additional testing is required tor disposal at a <br />Subtitle D landfill. <br />If the Contractor disposes at other than a Subtitle D landfill, ihe Contractor shall be responsibte for <br />choosing the disposal facility and periorming tests to meet the requirements ot the chosen facility. <br />Mir�mum frequency of testing shall be as follows: <br />The Coniractor shall assume ihe railroad ties are creosote treated and shall be disposed of per State <br />regulations. <br />The Coritractor shall submit a disposal plan to the Resi�ent Fnc�ineer that describes the stockpile <br />location, storage, testing, �isposal, and worker safety methodology. <br />ROADWAY AND SITE EXCAVATION AND EMBANKMENT <br />Description <br />Section 2-03.1 is supplemented with ihe following: <br />The Contractor should be aware that both heavy metal and peiroleum hydrocarbon cor�tamination <br />may be present in the site's soils. The heavy metal (Arsenic) is present in the granular surfacing <br />material, which shall be saved and used on site as subgrade material. Arsenic may also be present <br />in ihe underlying soils. Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH), gasoline to diesel range, is likely to be <br />present in ihe soils below the crushed rock sur(ace. The presence of TPH is normally detectable by <br />smell. The petroleum hyd!ocarbons appear to be more predominant in the norlh2astern portion oi <br />the project along ihe bridge but they may be encountered throughout the site. The <br />excavated/disturbed petrolaum hydrocarbon contaminated waste soils shall be disposed of oilsite at <br />an approved disposal site in accordance with Standard Specitication Section 2-03.3(7)C and as <br />amended herein, and may not be reused on site. <br />See Coniract Speci(ications Division 1 Sections 01575, 0157f,, and 01577 for health & satety <br />requirements (or worker protection and handling and disposal requirements. <br />It is expected that all deep excavations tor trenches for storm water and water lines, toundations, <br />iree pits, and electrical conduit below the existing granular surf;nce material will likely be unsuitable <br />and be removed as part of an unsuitable foundation excavation item. <br />Consiruction Requiremenis <br />Seciion 2-03.3 is supplemented with lhe (ollowing: <br />Street Improvement <br />The roadway ot the approach on 33rd Street shall be excsvated to a minimum dept!� of 18 inches �, <br />below ihe new pavement sections and replaced with compacted structural fill.
