ATTACHMENT A TO SECTION 01900 <br />REVISIONS TO THE STANDARD PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS <br />Following roadway and site excavation to grade ar.d before placement of fills or base courses, <br />the subgrade under the roadway and parkiny lot areas shall be procf rolled in the presence of <br />the Resident Engineer to identify any soft or foose areas. The proof roll shall be with a 15-ton <br />steel wheeled roller. In areas where ihe subgrade does not stand up to the proof roll, the <br />subgrade shall be over-excavated 18 inches and reusable existing on•site material, or imported <br />material, as determined by the Resident Engineer, shall be iniroduced to bring the subgrade up <br />to the proper compaction and elevation. This material shall be compacted in accordance with <br />Sec�ion 2-03.3(3). <br />Imported material shall be gravel borrow as directed by the Resident Engineer. Gravel borrow <br />shall conform to Section 9-03.14(1). Crushed surtacing base course (CSBC) as detined in <br />Section 9-03.9(3) may be substituted for gravel borrow. <br />Contractor-Provided Disposal Site <br />Section 2-03.3(7)C is supplemented with the following: <br />Asbestos-cement pipe disposal practice shall conform to the requi�ements oi the State of <br />Washington Depariment of Ecoloyy and the Snohomish County Solid Waste Division. <br />Disposal and handlinc� of the Arsenic and Total <br />material shall contorm to the requirements of the <br />and lhe Snohomish County Solid Was�e Division. <br />WATERING <br />Petroleum Hydrocarbon contaminated waste <br />State of 1Nashington department of Ecciogy <br />Construction Requiremenis <br />Watering shall be as specified in Section 2-07, except as hereinafter supplemented: <br />Only City of Everett personnel and the Resident Engineer may authorize the operation of City fire <br />hydranis or making connections to City water mains. Upon obtaining said permission, the following <br />shall apply: <br />1. The Contractor shall use only those hydrants designated by the agency in charge of water <br />distribution and in sirict accordance with its requirements for hydrant use. A hydrant use <br />permit must be obtained by contacting the U�ilities dispatcher. <br />2. The Contractor shall secure permission irom and comply with all requirements of ihe water <br />utility be(ore obtaining water from ihe fire hydrants. The Resident Engineer shall also be <br />notified by the Coniractor of such permission as soon as granted. <br />3. The Contractor shall use hydrant wrenches only to open hydrants. He shall also make <br />certain that the hydrant valve is open "(ull" since "cracking" the valve causes damage to <br />ihe valve. An approved auxiliary valve shall be provided on the outlet line for control <br />purposes. Fire hydrant valves must be closed siowly to avoid a surge in the system which <br />creates undue pressure cn water lines. The Contractor shall carefully note the importance <br />o( tollowing these directions. <br />4. If one ot ihe Contractor's employees shall knowingly or unknowingly use ihe wrong wrench <br />on a hydrant and thereby damage the hydrant valve stem, the Contractor will be <br />responsi�le. He shall immediately noti(y ihe water utility so ihat the damage can be <br />repaired as quickly as possible. <br />5. Upon completing the use of the hydranis, ihe Contractor shall notify the water distribution <br />agency so that the hydrants may be then inspected for possible damage.
