Violation of these requirements will result in fines and will lay the Contractor liable tor <br />damage suits because of malfunctioning of damaged tire hydrants, in the event of fire. <br />BALLAST AND CRUSHED SURFACING <br />Description <br />Section 4-04.1 is supplemented with the (oliowing: <br />This work shall also consist ot placing and compacting crushed surfacing base course and/or <br />crushed surfacing top course to be used as driveway maintenance material. <br />Crushed surfacing shall be placed to a minimum depth of 3" or as directed by the Resident Engineer. <br />ASPHALT TREATED SASE <br />Construction Requirements <br />Section 4-06.3 is supplemented with the following: <br />The Contractor may propose to the Resident Engineer the use of asphalt treated base to provide a <br />solid surtace tor hauling and other construction activities. In wet weather, the existing soils may not <br />support a paving operation. Aspha�t treated base for temporary working or staging areas, it elected <br />by the Coniractor, shali be insta�led, maintained, and removed when no longer needed, at no <br />addi�ional cost to the Owner. <br />If weather permits and it is acceptable to ihe Resident Engineer, ihe Coniractor may install asphalt <br />treated base in lieu of crushed suriacing base course. If this method is elected, ihe subgrade shall <br />be prepared per Standard Specification Section 2-06 and prooi-rolled in the presence of the <br />Resident Engineer. The subgrade elevation shall be adjusted so that ihe finished elevation oi the <br />ATB malches the original planned finish elevation of the crushed suriacing base course. The <br />iollowing replacement deplh conversions shall apply: <br />e" Crushed Surfacing Base Course = 5" of Asphalt Treated Base <br />AII underground utilities shall be installed, inspected and approved prior to ihe construction of the <br />asphalt treated base course. <br />HOT MIX ASPHALT <br />Description <br />Section 5-04. t is supplemented with the following: <br />HMA for this work shall be Commercial HMA and design of mix, liquid asphalts, and asphalt <br />concrete aggregate acceptance will be by Manu(acturer's Certificate of Compliance. <br />Construction Requirements <br />5-04.3(7)A Mix Design <br />Section is deleted and replaced with: <br />1. General. Priur to the production o( HMA, the Contractor shall determine a design aggregate <br />structure and asphalt binder content in accordance with WS'JOT Standard Operating Procedure <br />732.
