The blocking shall, unless otherwise shown or directed, be so placed that ihe pipe <br />and fitting joints, including nuts and boNs, will be accessible ior repair. <br />Mechanical Joint Restraining Devices <br />Mechanical Joint Restraining Devices may be used to restrain joints and fittings in lieu ot <br />concrete blocking where approved by the Resident Engineer. Mechanical Joint Festraining <br />Devices shall cr�nform to Section 9-30.2(6) oi ihe Standard Speci(ications and ihese Special <br />Provisiona. Joint restraint shail be installed per the manufacturer's recommendations. <br />When mechanical joint resira�ning devices are used at bends, mechanical joint restraining <br />devices shall also be used o�, all pipe fittings within 20 foet on either side of bends unless <br />otherwise approved by the R�sident E.igineer. <br />Res�rained joinis shall be provided where indicated on ihe Plans, or as directed ` y the Resident <br />Engineer. <br />Hydrostatic Pressure Test <br />Section 7-09.3(23) is supplemented with ihe following: <br />It shall be the Contractor's responsibility to provide an approved doubie-check assembly for the <br />purpose of testing and flushing. There will be no charr7e for the water used in this operation. <br />Flushing <br />Section 7-09.3(24)A is supplemented with the (ollowing: <br />Disinfection by the Dry Calcium Hypochlorite Method shatl not 5e ailowed. <br />Di�in(ection of water mains shall be pertormed in accordance with A4VWA Standard C651-86 <br />and Section 7-09.3(24) o( the Standard Specitications. <br />Flushing water must be disposed of in accordance with City of Everett and Washington Stata <br />Department of Ecology Standards. Flushing water may require dechlorination or disposal to <br />City of Everel� sewer system. Method of disposal shall be approved by the Resident Fngineer. <br />VALVES FOR WATER MAINS <br />Materials <br />The (irst p�ragraph of Section 7-12.2 is supplemented with ihe tollowing: <br />Materials shall meet the requirements of ihe following sections o( these Special Provisions: <br />Valve Stem Extensions <br />Consiruction Requirements <br />Section 7-12.3 is supplemented with ihe following: <br />9-30.3(6) <br />Valve and Valve Box Installation: The valve and valve box shall be set plumb with the vaive box <br />centered on ihe operator nut. Valve boxes shall be set fiush in pavement and gravel roads. When <br />ihe top of the valve operating nut is more than 2 feet below (inished grade, a valve operaiing <br />extension shall be ir.stalled per City of Everett Standard Drawing 504. The minimum extension <br />lengih sliall be 12 inches. <br />Tapping Sleeve and Valve: All taps to existing water mains shall be wet taps and shall be done by <br />City of Everett personnel.
