ATTACHMENT A TO SECTION 01900 <br />REVISIONS TO THE STANDARD PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS <br />CEMENT CONCRETE SIDEWALKS <br />Materials <br />Section 8-14.2 is supplemented wiih the following: <br />Slump oi the concreta mix shalf not exceed 3-1/2 inches. <br />Construction Requirements <br />Excavati�n <br />Section 8-14.3(1) is supplemented with the follawing: <br />It is expected there will be sufficient suitable native material excavated trom various portions ot <br />the improvement to fill low areas in the sidewalk subgrade and plan!ing strip area when needed <br />and no further payment will be allowed for till material. Where there is insutficient suitable <br />native material on the projec� si�e, �he Contractor shall turnish, place and compact gravel <br />borrow meeting the requirements of Section 9-03.14 oi these Specifications. <br />Forms <br />Section 8-14.3(2) is supplemented with the tallowing: <br />Before the forms are set, the subgrade shall be graded to two inches below established grade <br />lo accommodate two inches oi crushed sur(acing top course. <br />If ihe drawing calls for sidewalk drains or the Resident Engineer direcis sidewalk diains to be <br />installed, they shall be installed prior to ihe forms being placed. <br />Placing and Finishing Concrete <br />Section 8-14.3(3) is supplemented with the following: <br />Dummy joints shall be formed by first cutting a groove in ihe concrete with a tee bar of a depth <br />equal to, but not greater than the joint filler material, and tnen working the premolded joint iiller <br />into the groove. Premolded joint (iiter tor boih through and dunimy joints shall be positioned in <br />true alignment at right angles to the line of ihe sidewalk and ba normal to and flush with the <br />suriace. <br />Aiter the concrete has been thoroughly compacted and leveled, it shall be floa.ted with wood <br />iloats and finished at the proper time with a metal float. Joints shall be edged w?ih a 1/4 inch <br />radius edger and the sidewalk edges shall be tooled with a 1/2 inch radius edger. <br />After brush finish, the edges o( the sidewalk and all joints shall be lightly edged again with an <br />edc�ing tool lo give it a iinished appearance. <br />Scoring <br />Scoring patterns shall be appiied to the sidewalks as detailed in �he Plans <br />Curing <br />Sectio� 8-14.3(4) is supplemented with the following: <br />The Coniractor shall h�ve readily available sufiicient protective covering, such as waterproof <br />paper or plastic mem6rane, to cover the pour o( an entire day in the event o( rain or other <br />unsuitable weather. <br />The �idewalk shall be protected against damage or defacement o9 any kind until it has been <br />accepted by ihe Resident Engineer.
