Derrickson
Planning Director AP R 3 U 4
City of Evzrett
Everett, wast,ngton CITY OF E:'iRETT
Re: Frank Stipek Planning aept
EMC variance request
Dear Mr. Derrickson:
' I have been following with interest [he various developrier,ts on the 7 acre
property previously controlled by ourselves on the corner of 19th Ave. S.E.
and 100th Ave. S.E. To this point in time, the various proposals I have been
made aware of, involving a facility to house and car.e for the elderly have
seemed reasonable to me and within the spirit of what we had proposed to do
with the property.
Your notice of hearing dated April 23, 1984, however, requests variances
which I definitely take exception to. Specifically, I feel that the proposed
development on this property should be kept within existing codes both for
set back and building height. I think to allow variances at this point would
constitute a significant betrayal of promises made to the community by the
plinning department when the property was annexed in to the city of Everett.
The basic purpose of these codes as I see it is to establish some obective
criteria whereby tue existing aesthetics of the community can be maintained
as much as possible. I feel that multiple story structures particularly with
elevator shafts which exceed existing height requirements would definitely
viola[e those aesthetics. Changes in set back which are also designed to I
fulfill similar criteria will also inevitably result in undesirable and
unnecessary aesthetic changes.
I think the general proposal of developing the property for the use of our
senior citizens is a good one and such development is certainly needed in the
Silver Lake Comnunity. However, it must co-exist with the exiting residental
nature of the area. I would therefore encourage you to use maximal discretion
with the contract zoning wh3ch exists on the site and to be extremely wary of
granting any variances of the exLsting code whatsoever.
Respectfully,
  '"—'.
Dr. Kevin E. Ware,
Family Physician
Silver Lake Family Medical Center, P.S.
KEW:jm
EXH18 iT S
