GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING STUDY
Costco Wholesale
c/o Barghausen Consulting Engineers E-8556
January 13, 1999 Page 4
The construction of temporary slope. or the use of shoring will be necessary for the proposed
underground storage tank excavatios. Temporary slope recommendations are provided in
the "Slopes and Excavations" section of the report.
Odors or other indications of contaminated soii were not encountered during our field
explorations. Specific recommendaticns to mitigate the presence of contarciinated soil can
only be provided once the presence and concentration of contaminants, if present, are
confirmed.
This report has been prepared for specific application to this project only and in a manner
consistent with that level of care and skill ordinarily exercised by other members of the
profession currently practicing under similar conditions in this area for the exclusive use of
Costco Wholesale and their representatives. No other warranty, expressed or implied, is
made. We recommend that this report, in its entirety, be included in the project contract
documents for the information of the contractor.
Site Preoaration and General Earthwerk
The proposed development areas of the site should be stripped and cleared of the existing
asphalt pavement and landscaping. We understand the existing pavement and landscaping
adjacent to the development areas will remain. Existing utility lines to be abandoned should
be removed or plugged so they do not provide a conduit for water. Stripped materials should
be removed from the site.
A representative of ECI should observe the ground surface where structurai fill or foundations
are to be placed. Loose or unstable subgrade soils should be compacted or replaced with
structural fill. The use of cement kiln dust ca also be considered for stabilizing soils with
over optimum muisture contents. ECI should also observe the underground storage tank
excavations to verify soil conditions are as anticipated.
Earth Consultnnts. Inc.
lo
