 . ,
Recommended methods for constructing vegetated swales have
chanqed recently. The paragraphs given in the attached
sheet entitled "Construction of Swales IIsing Sod' must be
included on the plans.
The ewale seed and plant liet from page IV-17 of the Citys
standards must also be included on the plans. A copy of the
list is attached. The list of additionai vegetation for
' biofiltration swales was written for a one foot wide swale.
Given that the swales on this site are designed to be wider
than one foot, the specification for each vegetation type
should be changed from "25 clumps per lineal foot of swale"
to "25 clumps per sware foot of swale'.
The awale construction notes and swale planting/seeding
requirements must be shown on both the landscaping plan and
the storm drainage plan.
The attached detail showing the cross-section of the
biofiltration/grass swale should be included on the storm
drainage plans and the landscape plan3. The d l should
help clarify swale construction.
Wetpond•
A planting schedule for the treatment area of the wetpond
must be approved. The plan should call out the type of
veqetation to be planted, the density of the plantings, and
, the total number of plants needed. The plan must be shown
on both the landscaping plan and the storm drainage plan.
Plants suited to the depth of water in the treatment areas
should be used, such as ca'ttails and/or hardstem bulrush
(cattails seem to be the most "foolproof') . The density of
, the plantings should be approximately one every square foot.
The pond detail must clearly show the area of the pond to be
plantd - the area containeci by the 536 contour line should
be shaded or cross-hatched. A note should reference the
 planting schedule.
Abso ely as much of the driveway runoff must be , outed to
the ond p sibl , given th Erades of e dr ay
an the r eleva ' ns in t ond. It' pears th ore
o the iv ay c d ou ck to e nd, thou
an ex a catc in and th o m 1 diame r. pipe wou
be cessary.
A gate, for access to the overflow structure and for the
access road to the bottom of the first cell, must be shown
on the wetpond plans.
I
