Geotechnical Engineering Heparl 5 June 17. 2008
Fred Meyer Fueling Facilio, project 111005-117
For the anticipated floor slab loading, we estimate post -construction floor settlements of
/a- to %:-inch.
4.6 Drainattc
I-inal exterior grades should promote free and positive drainage away rronn building. Water
must not pond or collect adjacent to kiosk or within the immediate canopy area. We
recommend providing a minimum drainage gradient of i% for a minimum distance of 10
feet from the canopy perimeter, except in pawed locations. In paved locations, a minimum
gradient of 1% should be provided unless provisions are included for collection and
disposal of surface water adjacent to the structure.
4.7 Utilities
Utilily pipes should be bedded and backfilled in accordance with American Public Works
Association (APWA) specifications. For site utilities located v ]thin the City of Everett or
Snohomish County right-of-ways, bedding and buckfill should be completed in accordance
with City of Everett or Snohomish County specifications. The trench backlill should be
placed and compacted as structural fill, as described in the Site Prcparation and Grading
section.
Where utilities occur below unimproved areas, the degree ol'compact ion can be reduced to
a minimum of 90 percent of the soil's maximum density as determined by the referenced
ASTM standard. As noted, soils excavated on -site will generally be suitable for use as
backlill material if soil's moisture can be properly controlled.
Product and vent piping trenches should be sloped, bedded, and backfilled in accordance
with the APl specifications.
4.8 Pavements
Pavement subgrade should be prepared as described in the Site Preparation aid Grading
section of this report and as discussed below. Regardless of the relative compaction
achieved, the subgrade must be firm and relatively unyielding before paving. This
condition should be verified by proof -rolling with construction equipment or hand probe
by inspector.
Based on our Geld exploration, the existing parking lot pavement consists of 10 inches of
asphalt over native soil or strucnural till without crushed rock base (CRE). 71ic pavement
seems to be in acceptable condition. The future pavement can match this pavement section.
If this pavement will be used, Riley recommends that the navcnient section consist of 4
inches of asphalt concrete (AC) over G inches of asphalt treated base (ATE). CRB will not
used.
Alternatively, regular flexible pavement with CR13 can be used. With the pavement
subgrade prepared as described above, the following pavement sections are recommended:
The Riley Group, Inc.
