consists largely of unconsolidated sands, gravels & mud. The channels gradient averages
less than 1 %.
Our research suggests that WDFW has mapped portions of the creek as capable of
supporting fish, primarily resident cutthroat trout.
While we did not observe any direct fish use, we are unwilling to conclude that fish are
not present within this system. In addition, EMC 37.160.2 states: "Stream segments
which have a width of two feet or greater at the ordinary high water mark and have a
gradient of sixteen percent or less for basins I-ss than or equal to fifty acres in size, or
have a gradient of twenty percent or less for basins greater than fifty acres in size, are
provisionally presumed to be used by salmonid fish".
Based on the above conditions, we feel that this stream is best characterized as type F
stream and a 100 foot protective buffer will adequately protect stream functions.
• Wetland:
The wetlands located on and adjacent to the property are directly associated with the
stream channel. Our assessment suggests that this wetland is best characterized as being
a riverine wetland (HGM classification).
The vegetative diversity and distribution found in the wetland is increasingly complex.
The wetland is comprised of mixed forested stands, scrub/shrub and emergent plants.
Dominant plant species found in the wetland are native. Dominate plants include: Red
Alder, Cedar, Salmon Berry, and Creeping Buttercup. While some invasive plant species
are in the wetland, the wetland is a native plant wetland.
The wetland and stream buffer contains development (apartments). The buffer itself is
dominated by Cedar, Fir, Salmonber y, English Ivy and Blackberry. The buffer contains
significant amounts of invasive plant species.
Because of the wetlands position in the landscape, specific vegetative composition and
overall gradient the wetland provides important hydraulic, water quality benefits and
habitat functions. Our scoring of this wetland is as follow:
FUNCTION
SCORE
Water Quality Function
20
Hydraulic Function
22
Habitat Function
21
Based on our assessments this wetland is best characterized as a category II wetland.
Because of its habitat value EMC 37.1 M.A.I b requires a buffer of 75 feet.
