arch 7A 1994 5 943-]525
Preliminary Sucial Geologi': Map of the Mukilteo and Everett Quadrangles,
Snohomish County, Washington, by Mackey Smith, dated 1976.
United States Geological Survey, Mukilteo, Washingiun Quadrangle, 7.5 minute
topographic map, dateJ 1953, photorevised 1968 and 1973.
The topogrephic map indicated that the site is situated on a relatively level upland plateau
bounded on the west and north by steep bluffs leading down to Puge: Sound, and the east
by the Snohomish River Valley. The surface topography within one mile of the site ranges
from about 490 to 580 feet. No surface drainage features were shown within a one mile
radius of the site. A wetland is shown abo•t one mile west of the site at thc south end of the
airpoet runway. Lake Stickney is located about 1.5 miles to the south of lhe site. Sutface
water drainage in the vicinity of the subject property appears to be toward Lake Stickney.
Silver Lake is localed about 2 miles to the east, and Laka Serene about 2 miles to the
southwest of the site.
The USGS geology map indicates that the entire project site is underlain by deposits mapped
as Vashon Till. 'fhe Vashon Till is a lodgemen4 till deposited beneath or marginal to the
advancing glacier. It is charecterized by a poorly sorteci, non-stratified mixture of sand,
gravel, silt and clay. It is dense to very dense and will stand in near vertical cliEfs. The till
typically exhibils a yellow brown, weathered zone overlying a light gray, unweathered zone.
Nater percolatea through the weatherecl zone and typically flows along the contact with the
less permeable unweathered till. Seepage is commonly associated with the
weathered/unweathered contact or in sandy lenses wilhin the till.
3.2.3 TiUe Hietory Report Review
We reviewed a aummary of a title history report prepared by Stewart Title Company of
Snohomish County, Washington. A copy of that report is included in Appendiu C. The
report documents included property lranster and ownership information dating from 1874 to
1989. The aubject properly was owned by Pope & Talbot, a California timber company in
1874, when it was sold to private individuals as Lot 34 nd 35. Both lots were transferred
numerous times to private owners.
