7
George Bekker—Wanted to know how much money has been spent on this
project so far. Mr. Bekker also expressed concerns about the garbage transfer
station that has been relocated. He disagreed with the effort to attract more
people to live within Everett.
Glenn Bachman —The O/M project has a lot of synergy. This project needs the
right decisions to be made by all.
Katrina Lindall— Expressed a desire to have the trails to be circular in nature, so
you are able to take long and short walks. That is the charm that is down there
now and it's important. With a big housing development, she does not want to
have view corridors for this project. She doesn't want to see trees cut down nor
have the parks department getting involved in the removal of trees. Most cities
don't cut down or top trees for development.
Dianne closed public discussion and invited board members to comment.
Erich —Thanked Dr. Alexander for his input and his pictures.
Likes the idea of a kiosk on site. It should be considered provided there is
enough parking spaces. There will be overflow parking for music venues.
Mary Jane—Added to Erich's comment about parking. Everett Transit can
provide adequate transportation and there should be bike racks. One should be
able to get to the Riverfront by means other than a vehicle. Asked staff to clarify
the difference between "bio- engineering" and "fill"for stabilizing banks and to
define"sustainability."
Tina — Inquired about the public comment regarding creosote. (Area referenced
is not part of the area that is the subject of the current master plan. It is on a
DOE clean-up list. It is just east of the parking lot at the main trail head in Lowell
Riverfront park. The park will be the subject of a master planning effort in the
future.)
George Bekker— Inquired about the relationship between the master plan and
the Everett Gospel Mission. How does the mission fit into the plan? Paul
responded that the status of the mission is not under the purview of the board.
Dr. Alexander—At the opening of the public hearing, this area was identified as
a highly historic area. The real history is that it was a flood plain for the
Snohomish River. Historic information should be incorporated in the plan.
It was moved by Patrick and seconded by Mary Jane to recommend that the City
Council adopt the Riverfront Public Amenities Master Plan. Motion was
unanimously approved.
Seattle Outboard Association Request for Use of Silver Lake Hearing
Dianne opened the public hearing.
25
