7
Barry Martin indicated that the Seattle Outboard Association Request for Use of
Silver Lake requires a public hearing. The Police Department did not have any
concerns and Barry requested that the board recommend City Council approval
of the application.
Howard Shaw, Chairman of the event since 1967, gave an overview of the event.
It's a family event. We run about 15 classes. The event ends at 6:00 pm. It is a
multi-generational event. We dean up the park for the event and try to make it
better than when we arrive. We do drag the sand after the event.
Dianne closed the public hearing.
Mary Jane asked how far away people travel. Howard answered, Vancouver
Island. We have about 100 participants.
Tina— Inquired about the boats built with kids. Do they keep them? Howard
answered yes. They keep them and modify them over the years.
Art asked if this is the most urban lake. Howard answered, no. Art supports a
two day event.
Erich — Inquired about the event's budget. Howard indicated that the association
hopes to always break even. We hire enough staff and support to "police" our
own event. No added police or ranger efforts are required.
Richard motioned to recommend City Council approval. Patrick seconded.
Motion unanimously approved.
Member Reports:
Tina thanked staff for adding transit information to parks maps and asked that
transit add parks to bus maps. Tina added that trees and landscaping received
the most votes (for the Evergreen Way public meeting). She also said that
"teenagers" did not like to be referred to as "youth". Also attended the tree
committee meeting. The members have a list of goals and inventory of city
streets trees. It's important to have the right tree in the right place. The streets
division is working with Parks along Colby.
Art— no report.
Erich — Is serving on a new market tax credit advisory board. Het with Gary
Sayre today at Walter E. Hall Golf Course.
Richard —On Saturday took a hike up to the ice caves. It was beautiful.
Patrick - no report.
26
