Task 4 — Geotechnical Investigations
This task will execute geotechnical engineering work for the project and provide
recommendations for design and construction. The geotechnical engineering services will be
conducted by MBA's subconsultant, Associated Earth Sciences, Inc. Anticipated elements of
this task will include:
4.1 Review Available Data — Review all available geologic and subsurface information.
This will include geotechnical report provided by the City including:
• Proposed Sewer Main Upgrades, Shannon and Wilson dated April 1991
• Everett North End Sewer Upgrades HWA Geosciences, dated April 9, 2000
• City of.Everett Sewer M, GeoEngineers, November 2014
4.2 Exploration Plan and Permitting — The exploration plan will include at least 10
borings in areas where suspect soft soils conditions are located and where, based upon
past reports, there is limited information. The exploration program plan will be
submitted to the City for approval, as appropriate. Develop and process necessary
traffic control plan and right-of-way permits as required to complete boring
explorations for City's approval.
4.3 Field Explorations and Laboratory Testing — Explore subsurface soil and
groundwater conditions by drilling ten (10) borings to a depth of approximately 15
feet along the proposed pipeline alignment and two (2) borings to a depth of
approximately 50 feet at the proposed detention pond sites. Both borings located in
the pond will included the installation of monitoring wells. These wells will be
equipped with data loggers that can record continuous water level data over a several
month period prior to a data download.
Samples obtained during the exploration will be examined and analyzed as necessary
to develop design and construction recommendations. Perform laboratory tests on
representative samples of the soils, including tests for moisture content, density, and
particle size distribution.
4.4 Design Recommendations and Documentation — Geotechnical conclusions and
design recommendations will be based on available data and subsurface exploration
and include:
o Site Conditions — Detailed description of site conditions including subsurface soil
conditions encountered in the explorations. A geologic description of the area
will be provided based on published information and experience in the area.
Eorthivork and ,Site Pr eparotion — Recommendations for earthwork and site
preparation including suitability of on-site soils for reuse in trench backfill,
placement and compaction of trench bac1Lr11, and mitigation of unsuitable soil
22
