0'Donnell, Drigham 6 Partners, N. W. E-1540
May 19, 1901 Page 10
slopes or loads Will occur above the walls. llowever, if sur-
charges arc to be applied they sliould be added to ttie above
lateral pressures for design.
All walls slould be provided witli adequate provisions for
subsurEace drainage to prevent the buildup of hydrostatic
pressures eitlier behind or b•neatli tlie walls. All sucli drains
sliould be tiylitlined to a positive, permanent diccharge system.
Retcntion Pond
Defore earthwork or site clearing operations get under way
it will be necessary to remove, or relocate, the stormwater
retention pond presently located in the northeast corner of the
west site. At tliis time alternative metliods for collecting or
controlling stormwater runotf from tlie adjacent site must be
inplement^.d.
We recommend that the utmost care be exercised during
removal of the retention pond to make certain that all soft
and/or wet sedimenl-s retained within the pond area are removed.
Site Preparation
` All building and pavement areas slould be cleared oE all
existinq structures, utility lines, pavements and debris, large
vegetation, buslies, topsoil and otlier deleterious matter. All
topsoil stripped from tlie site may be stockpiled for later use
in landscaping, iE desired, or it should be removed from the
aite. Topsoil material3 sliould not under any circumstances be
allowed to contaminake materials tliat are to be used as'struc-
tural fill.
In all areas that will receive fill, bUildings, or pave-
ments, tlie subgrade shoul.d be prooErolled under the observation
of a representative oE Eartli Consultants. Inc.' This procedure
should indicate tlie presence oE any exceptionally loose or un-
,table areas which, 1E present, should be overexcavated and
replaced by structural fill or cruslied rock. Cills placed on
sloping surfaces must be benched into the underlying subgrade
and the toe of all fills should be firmly keyed into the dense
native soils.
To provide a stable slope for tlie deep Eill along tfie edge
of the swamp on the western site it will be necessary to key the
structural Eill firmly into tlie dense native till soils under-
lyinc the site. To accomplisli tliis it will be necessary to
remove tlie existing organic materials overlying the part of tlie
site in the cwamp area on which the ti.11 slope is to be con-
' structed. Removal of the organic materials may be achieved by
GIh Consullanls, Inc.
