37. A sprinkler system complying with UBC Standard 38-1 and/or NFPA Standard 13 must
be provided.
Plans for any such system must be submitted to the Building Department and the
Everett Fire Department for examination and approval. Such plans must include plans
for the underground mains that will supply the sprinkler system.
As of Janaury, 1991, sprinkler system permits are issued by the Building Department.
Plan review fees are assessed by the Building Department. No fee is assessed by the
Fire Department.
Above ground sprinkler piping must be hydrostatically tested as established in NFPA
Standard 13. Underground piping must be hydrostatically tested and flushed as
established in NFPS Standard 24 for private fire mains. All such tests must be
witnessed by a Fire Department inspector. Call 259-8710 to make an appointment for
inspection.
Contractors' materials and test certificates must be submitted to the Everett Fire
Department prior to issuance of any Certificates of Occupancy.
Call 259-8726 for more information.
38. A fire alarm system is required for this project. Fire alarm systems shall be installed
and tested according to Uniform Fire Code and NFPA standards. Plans shall be
submitted to the Everett Fire Department for approval, and work shall be done under
permit from the City of Everett Building Department.
39. A portable fire extinguisher with a minimum UL rating of 2A must be provided within
75 feet travel distance on each floor of all portions of each building during
construction.
40. The Uniform Fire Code requires that all new structures provide Fire Department access
roads to within 150 feet of all portions of the ground floor. Fire Department access
roads (fire lanes) must provide a minimum of 20 feet in width of unobstructed, all
season driving surface, with minimum vertical clearance of 13'6". Fire lanes must be
posted and maintained as required by the Fire Department.
41. The premises must be clearly identified by address at the street entry. Each building
must be clearly identified so as to be visible and legible from the access road.
Individual apartments must be clearly and legibly identified.
42. When access to or within a structure or an area is unduly difficult because of secured
openings or where immediate access is necessary for life saving or fire-fighting
purposes, the Fire Department may recommend or require a key box to be installed in
an accessible location. A rapid entry system may also be desirable in order to avoid
unnecessary damage while making entry to any building during an emergency.
Please call 259-8726 for further information.
43. The City of Everett prohibits outdoor burning. Therefore, outdoor burning for the
purpose of disposing of construction debris or rubbish will not be permitted.
6
