TASK 8: BNSF COORDINATION
This Task will be performed by TranTech's subconsultant MCR to provide BNSF Coordination.
As Railroad Liaison it is necessary to work with the BNSF Railway closely and often.
Immediately after the project award I would schedule an informal meeting between the design-
team, the City and BNSF to describe the project and some of the constraints that the City will
face in the design and reconstruction of the Broadway Avenue Bridge. The meeting would result
in a better understanding of BNSF's concerns, the procedures the design team must follow
during design preparation, railroad reviews and contract preparation. The meeting would also
provide an insight as to the timetable required to complete the project. - - -
Expect 60 day per review of each set of plans (design, demolition, shoring, falsework and
formwork plans)
Throughout the design process, negotiations will continue with BNSF for mutual approvals of
the clearances required, funding, and construction access.
Communication is the key in reducing if not eliminating project delays.
The Task will include the following subtasks:
A. Project Administration
1. Reporting and Management
2. Provide Project Management activities associated with the preparation of invoices, filing,
contract initiation, documentation of meetings, and other internal administrative tasks.
3. Agency Coordination
4. Approximately three to six meetings scheduled with BNSF to review design plans, for
negotiations and to discuss agreement requirements.
Deliverables:
• Meeting minutes
B. Permit Preparation and BNSF Coordination
1. Consultant shall prepare and process a temporary occupancy permit for survey and
geotechnical work as required.
3. Provide quality control of railroad plans and exhibits.
4. Provide Bridge Alternative Study Report to BNSF for predetermined reviews, including
demolition, shoring and falsework plans.
5. Assist City in its negotiations with BNSF
Deliverables:
28
