ARTICLE 18 - WORK IN HIGHER CLASSIFICATION <br /> 18.1 Temporary assignment. <br /> 18.1.1 Except as provided in 18.1.3, any member of the Department who is temporarily <br /> assigned by the Chief of Police or a designated departmental officer to accept the <br /> full duty and responsibility of a rank higher than his/her current regular <br /> classification for a period of five (5) or more hours shall be paid at the rate of the <br /> higher rank beginning with the first hour worked in his/her temporary assignment <br /> until returned to work in his/her regular classification. <br /> 18.1.2 Master Police Officers may act in supervisory positions if such assignment can be <br /> made without causing the number of patrol officers in the field to fall below <br /> minimum crew levels. A Master Police Officer may act in such capacity for three <br /> (3) consecutive work days with no extra compensation. <br /> 18.1.3 A Sergeant who is temporarily assigned to perform work outside the bargaining <br /> unit will receive 10% of the employee's base salary as out of class pay. The <br /> Sergeant will continue to receive deferred compensation, longevity, educational <br /> incentive pay and insurance benefits under the labor agreement.
