A. Computation. <br /> For the purposes of computing longevity, vacation, sick leave and retirement, the employee's <br /> adjusted employment date shall be used. Time consisting of two (2) consecutive weeks or <br /> more in any calendar year that is spent on leaves of absences without pay or separation due to <br /> a reduction in force (RIF) shall cause the employee's adjusted employment date to be adjusted <br /> accordingly. <br /> B. It is the intent of the parties that the definitions pertaining to employee movements in <br /> classifications as used in this section apply to compensation only and do not affect other <br /> provisions of this Agreement. Promotion shall be movement to a higher compensated <br /> classification; Lateral Transfer shall be movement within the same classification to another work <br /> assignment; Demotion shall be movement to a lower compensated classification. <br /> All persons who are employed in the classifications set forth above shall be paid in accordance <br /> with the following: <br /> 1. For the purposes of determining step salary increases due in an employee's <br /> entry position, the employee's adjusted employment date shall be used. Salary <br /> step increases will occur yearly from the adjusted employment date. <br /> 2. Promotion. <br /> a. For purposes of determining step salary increases due after a promotion, <br /> the current position date, which indicates the date the promotion to the <br /> new classification was granted, shall be used. Time consisting of two (2) <br /> consecutive weeks or more in any calendar year that is spent on leave of <br /> absence without pay or separation due to a reduction in force (RIF) shall <br /> not be credited toward completion of a step advancement in a <br /> promotional position and shall result in an adjustment to the employee's <br /> current position date and, if applicable, to the next increment date. <br /> Salary step increases will occur yearly from the adjusted employment <br /> date. <br /> b. An employee receiving a promotion shall receive not less than one (1) full <br /> salary step above that which he/she held in the previous grade. <br /> 3. Demotion. <br /> a. An employee demoted either voluntarily or due to a reduction in force <br /> (RIF) shall be paid the salary step in the lower pay range which is <br /> equivalent to the salary step currently being paid. An employee who is <br /> demoted for either reason stated above shall have a current position date <br /> which reflects all time spent within the classification.
