During the design process significant effort was devoted to
reaching out to the local community. City staff and the design
team made a concerted effort to involve everybody in the com-
munity in understanding and making decisions about park pro-
gramming and design. Throughout the design process, the
design team and city staff held a total of six public meetings,
eight additional public outreach meetings, three Park Board
meetings, and one city council presentation. The general pub-
lic was invited to all of these meetings. The Advisory Commit-
tee, including representatives from the local Delta and River-
side neighborhood organizations, met three times during the
process. In addition, city staff met once with the Riverside
Neighborhood group and three times with the Delta Neighbor-
hood Organization prior to design team involvement in the pro-
ject in order to: (1) discuss the initiative to begin the planning
process in line with the Park Board strategic master plan priori-
tization effort; and (2) to solicit neighborhood involvement,
both on the Advisory Committee and in the public meetings.
Additional efforts included a Parks and Recreation staff field
trip to other athletic facilities, a children's field trip to area
parks and playgrounds, a meeting with local children's free
lunch program, verbal and written correspondence, and project
information posted on the city web site.
4 v.?, e
 : s $
4
Y Lm
.[ ,e v
1 - .
,Ct.
1 i, ( [ - 1 - , -
.. f S --,moi M F - ff ,
 1 1 -P ,? 1, _'t— y .'4' 1,. --{ 1 _-;7".
