During the design process significant effort was devoted to reaching out to the local community. City staff and the design team made a concerted effort to involve everybody in the com- munity in understanding and making decisions about park pro- gramming and design. Throughout the design process, the design team and city staff held a total of six public meetings, eight additional public outreach meetings, three Park Board meetings, and one city council presentation. The general pub- lic was invited to all of these meetings. The Advisory Commit- tee, including representatives from the local Delta and River- side neighborhood organizations, met three times during the process. In addition, city staff met once with the Riverside Neighborhood group and three times with the Delta Neighbor- hood Organization prior to design team involvement in the pro- ject in order to: (1) discuss the initiative to begin the planning process in line with the Park Board strategic master plan priori- tization effort; and (2) to solicit neighborhood involvement, both on the Advisory Committee and in the public meetings.
