John Petersen reported that the plan incorporates
the vision of the department's strategic plan as well as the goals the department
considers vital as a community park. The public process included presentations
at neighborhood meetings and public forums – during the evenings and
Saturdays. John acknowledged Katrina Lindahl and those on the advisory
committee; thanks to Mark Harrison, parks planning and capital development
manager, and Jennifer Kiusalaas and staff from McLeod Rekord.
Citizen comments:
Shawna Moriarty, 3625 Everett Ave., asked if a dog park was considered. John
replied that a location on-site was considered, but is not advisable due to grade,
adding that a dog park adjacent to Langus Park is being planned when funds are
available.
Casey Rice, 1521 Oakes, asked about the likelihood of phase one beginning in
the next three years. Formalized design process needs to be done with current
approved funding; phase two is fund dependent.
Art Breitsprecher, 1705 Walnut, feels lots of "stuff" is being crammed into a small
area which would reduce open space and mountain views. Prefers the way it is
now; new buildings on west side of park would be clearly visible from his
residence; drainage should be considered as park runoff affects his property.
John responded that drainage will be addressed during design; the plan is to
maintain low structures in order to retain or improve current views. Mr.
Breitsprecher added that bringing in all the stuff could provide cover for illegal
activity.
