Due to impermeable on-site soils, the sur- <br /> facing will have an underdrainage system. <br /> Community and Demonstration Gardens <br /> An approximately 14,000 SF area is set aside for community <br /> gardens in the northernmost part of the park. The garden area <br /> could be managed by a qualified outside organization for com- <br /> munity/neighborhood use. This garden is sized to accommo- <br /> date approximately thirty-three 10 x 16 foot garden plots, path- <br /> ways and a small garden shed. Some of the garden plots <br /> would be accessible and allow for wheelchair access. It is an- <br /> ticipated that the exact layout for the community gardens <br /> would be developed during the subsequent design phase. De- <br /> velopment of these gardens could happen in phases depend- <br /> ing upon demand. <br /> The demonstration/interpretive gardens are located at the west <br /> edge of the site near the southwest entry plaza, picnicking and <br /> play area. A pergola/garden shed building offers a place for <br /> small classes, potting, and other gardening related and educa- <br /> tional activities.
