The viewpoint is centered on the eastern Highland Avenue <br /> sidewalk. A raised planter and removable bollards prevent ve- <br /> hicular access at the street end. Pedestrian pathways slope <br /> down to a circular plaza featuring recognition of Senator Henry <br /> M. Jackson. Terraced plant beds step down to the athletic field <br /> below. An accessible ramp leads down to the west from the <br /> viewpoint to the fields and western side of the park. <br /> The view terrace extends to the east of the viewpoint at the <br /> same elevation. Benches are provided behind a railing at the <br /> top of the terraced bleacher seating. A small lawn area with a <br /> curvilinear seat wall provides opportunity for small scale pas- <br /> sive recreational activities. Three stairways leading down <br /> through the bleacher seating allow direct access to the athletic <br /> fields below. From the east end of the terrace a long curved <br /> ramp leads down to the athletic fields and restrooms. A path- <br /> way with steps connects to the alley between Highland and <br /> Summit. <br /> Buildings <br /> The park master plan preserves and upgrades the existing pic- <br /> nic shelter and adds several new buildings including two rest- <br /> rooms, a second picnic shelter, a neighborhood gathering <br /> shelter, a garden shed, a pergola, maintenance/storage build- <br /> ing, and covered dugouts. The buildings are designed as a <br /> family of structures with similar character, features, materials, <br /> and colors.
