• Brushed aluminum handrails at all stairs and ramps. <br /> 42-inch high guardrails are provided as required where <br /> walkways are adjacent to walls greater than 30 inches <br /> in height. <br /> • Dog stations with signage and pick-up bags and trash <br /> receptacles at each station. <br /> • Individual, isolated skateboard features may be consid- <br /> ered at strategic out-of-the-way locations along walk- <br /> ways within the park. <br /> • Signage: A new park entrance sign next to the park <br /> entry drive at E. Marine View Drive. Interpretive sign- <br /> age could illustrate and describe rain gardens and <br /> demonstration gardens. Directional and accessible <br /> signage in the parking areas. Park maps and use <br /> guideline in various locations to be determined during <br /> the subsequent design phase. All kiosks, signage, and <br /> flag poles will be designed according to Everett Parks <br /> and Recreation design standards. <br /> • Fencing and gates are typically coated chain link, how- <br /> ever ornamental iron fence, hedges, and/or other low <br /> plantings or a combination of these should be consid- <br /> ered in the subsequent design phase. <br /> Planting <br /> The plan recommends native and drought tolerant species that <br /> are attractive to wildlife, durable, long lived and low mainte- <br /> nance. Dwarf grass species could be utilized in natural turf ar- <br /> eas to reduce the need for mowing. Many existing trees are <br /> preserved at the southeast side of the park site, including <br /> some large significant Maples in the viewpoint area. Two <br /> groves of cherry trees and a woodland area are preserved <br /> southeast of Summit Avenue. <br /> New trees in the plan contribute to creating a sense of place, <br /> help to differentiate the various parts of the park, soften im- <br /> pacts of parking lots, and provide visual buffers at streets and <br /> adjacent properties. Mountain views are maintained from key <br /> locations in the park by providing open view corridors and <br /> planting smaller trees where they are required within view cor- <br /> ridors. Potential future development on parcels to the north <br /> may include tall buildings that could partially block some of the <br /> mountain views. Low or narrow trees are planted along the <br /> northern edge of the park to screen near views of current and <br /> future development directly to the north but still allow distant <br /> mountain views. <br /> Rain gardens are included in the plan and provide an educa- <br /> tional opportunity in addition to providing some treatment of <br /> stormwater runoff. Interpretive signage will illustrate how rain <br /> gardens function to clean stormwater. Plantings will be pre- <br /> dominantly native material. <br /> 48 City of Everett <br />
