The requirement for natural light allows taking light from adjoining rooms. "For the <br /> purpose of determining light requirements, any room shall be considered as a <br /> portion of an adjoining room when at least one-half of the area of the common wall <br /> is open and unobstructed and provides an opening of not less than one-tenth of the <br /> floor area of the interior room but not less than 25 square feet (2.3m2).,, <br /> The proposed bedroom addition does not provide"at least one-half of the area of <br /> the common wall" as being open and unobstructed (assuming a 10' wide wall 8'tall, <br /> 40 square feet required. Therefore not enough natural light is provided from the <br /> bedroom for the den. Artificial light may be used per the exception to section <br /> R303.1 Natural Light. (As follows.) <br /> "The glazed area need not be installed in rooms where artificial light is provided <br /> capable of producing an average illumination of 6 footcandles (65 LUX) over the area <br /> of the room at a height of 30 inches (762mm) above the floor level." <br /> Provide lighting schedule if the exception is used. <br /> Ventilation requirements are in section M1507.3 IRC for interior spaces. <br /> 6. Provide foundation ventilation calculation. Show size and location of foundation <br /> vents on foundation plan. <br /> 8. Specify on the plans, the minimum size of headers required for the openings in the <br /> existing exterior walls considering the additional weight from the roof of the <br /> addition. <br /> 9.
