District withdrew their previous letter and stated that they <br /> did not include the Merrill Creek site in their projections of <br /> students in planning for the bond issue passed by voters. The <br /> letter stated, <br /> The District has recently attempted to purchase land <br /> in this area and was unsuccessful in locating a <br /> suitable school site. As a result, our closest <br /> elementary school will be located at approximately <br /> Hardeson and Casino. We do not anticipate that this <br /> school will be able to accommodate the additional <br /> number of students projected as residing in this <br /> development. <br /> We understand that the ownership of the development <br /> is changing. We propose that the District meet with <br /> the future owners to discuss the impact of this <br /> development and to obtain assistance for land <br /> acquisition in the area north of Casino. It appears <br /> that with the addition of this development the <br /> District will require an additional elementary site <br /> in this area. <br /> City staff met with representatives of the School <br /> District who stated that they will provide an education for <br /> all students in the District. They have four ways of dealing <br /> with overcrowding, including provision of portables, bussing <br /> students, provision of an interim school site, and/or passing <br /> a new bond issue for construction of new facilities. The <br /> School District staff stated that their greatest need is for <br /> land for a school site. <br /> While the proposal was in review by Planning Commission, <br /> the Applicant negotiated an agreement with the Mukilteo School <br /> District regarding mitigation of impacts. Initial discussions <br /> were related to provision of land and/or portable classrooms <br /> by the Applicant. The final agreement was payment of a <br /> 15 <br />
