Answer—Shoring or Extra Excavation Class B is meant to cover the work required and
directed by the engineer for excavation/shoring outside the trench limits shown on the plan.
Question 15
Special Provision 2-02.5 shows numerous unit price items for"Remove (Item)". Bid Items for
these unit price items have not been included in the bid schedule for work shown on
plans. Please clarify or provide the appropriate bid items.
Answer—The items provided in the bid list reflect the scope of the removal items. The
additional items in the specification are not intended to be included in the bid list.
Question 16
Special Provision 2-02.5 indicates that"All costs associated with removal and disposal of
obstructions encountered during removal ... will be paid by force account ...." This section also
says"Removal of items not listed in the Bid Form shall be considered as incidental ... and the
costs thereof shall be included in the various items comprising the improvement." The two
statements appear to be in conflict. Please clarify.
Answer—Removal of Structures and Obstructions is meant to cover the extra removal cost of
items not shown on the plans such as buried boulders, old seawalls, old sidewalks, etc. The
second statement, "Removal of items not listed..." is meant to cover items shown on the plans
that otherwise don't have a specific bid item.
Question 17
Questions regarding Bid Item No. 171, Shoring Extra Excavation Class B: What exactly is this
work? Why is this a Force Account item?
Answer—From the standard spec 2-09.3(2), "2. Class B —All other Structure excavation shall
be Class B. If this excavation requires cofferdams, shoring, or extra excavation, the work
outside the neat lines of the Structure excavation Class B shall be classified as shoring or extra
excavation Class B." This is payment for excavation or shoring required and directed by the
engineer for work outside the trench limits shown on the plans. This is used to cover the
unknown soil variability in the trench. It is a Force Account item because we cannot quantify
how much soil will be unsuitable at the bottom of the trench or the means/methods used to
perform the work. The common proposal price for bid item A171 is $5,000.00 and has been
added to the replacement proposal form.
Question 18
Will there be a One-Line Diagram provided for the Elevator equipment, showing elevator
operation, including any required Fire Alarm Notification/control devices?
Answer—All necessary details for bidding are included in plans and specifications.
All other requirements of the contract documents remain in effect.
City of rett
FO y777
H-ather Griffin, P.E.
Project Manager
City of Everett Addendum No. 2
Project Bid
Grand Avenue Park Bridge Page 5
