EVERETT COMPREHENSIVE PLAN <br />alternative routes for regional through <br />trips. <br />GOAL 6 <br />Guide Transit Investments. Proactively partner with <br />regional transit agencies to guide investment <br />decisions <br />Policy 6.1.: Develop an integrated Transit System <br />Plan to be used in planning, design, <br />designation and construction of bus, rail <br />and station facilities and routes in the <br />city to promote travel by public <br />transportation services. <br />Policy 6.2: Maintain transit service as a preferred <br />mode -of -travel for all trip purposes to <br />and from downtown and other <br />designated activity centers within the <br />city and region. <br />Policy 6.3: Support commuting alternatives by bus, <br />rail and new transit technologies. <br />Policy 6.4: Identify and preserve necessary rights- <br />of-way for high capacity transit <br />alignments and station locations at the <br />earliest opportunity. <br />Policy 6.5: Support expansion of passenger rail <br />services to Everett. <br />Policy 6.6: Plan alignment for a future regional high <br />capacity transit system based on criteria <br />that are guided by the City's preferred <br />land use vision, population and <br />employment distribution and <br />opportunities and potential for <br />redevelopment. <br />Policy 6.7: Participate in planning, design, funding, <br />and development of a regional high <br />capacity transit system as a travel <br />option for regional passenger travel and <br />to reduce reliance on the single <br />occupant vehicle. <br />Policy 6.8: Work with regional jurisdictions to <br />coordinate decisions on regional, high <br />capacity transit rights-of-way and their <br />connections to other local and regional <br />facilities to maximize transit investment <br />benefits that enhance the City's land use <br />and transportation plans. <br />Policy 6.9: Designate and promote primary <br />alternative routes for regional transit <br />trips to minimize traffic impacts to City <br />arterials. <br />Policy 6.1o: Partner with regional transit agencies to <br />provide direct service to trip generating <br />sites in Everett, in order to optimize <br />passenger travel times and increase <br />efficiency of service. <br />TRANSPORTATION ELEMENT 40 <br />
