' SECTION 02223- EARTHWORK <br /> PART 1 - GENERAL <br /> 1.01 DESCRIPTION <br /> A. The work of this section consists of excavation and embankment construction. It includes <br /> placing, shaping, grading and compacting of both imported borrow and materials <br /> encountered within the limits of the work. It also includes stripping, stockpiling and placing of <br /> topsoil as directed, and disposal of unsuitable and excess material. It includes construction <br /> of drainage ditches, and channels. All dedicated street construction, and open ditch <br /> construction shall be according to this Section. <br /> ' 1.02 CLASSIFICATION <br /> A. All excavation under this section shall be considered unclassified regardless of the nature of <br /> material encountered. <br /> 1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE <br /> A. References,American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials(AASHTO). <br /> B. APWA Manual of Standard Specifications, 1997 edition. <br /> C. See Section 02021, (where applicable). <br /> 1 1.04 RELATED WORK SPECIFIED ELSEWHERE <br /> A. Watering - Section 02233; Imported Structural Fill - Section 02203. <br /> i1.05 JOB CONDITIONS <br /> A. When imported structural fill is required, comply with the requirements of Section 02203. All <br /> ' on-site suitable material shall be utilized prior to importing borrow. If Contractor imports <br /> borrow in excess of that required, such excess will be at contractor's expense. <br /> PART 2 - MATERIALS <br /> 2.01 WATER <br /> ' A. See Section 02233. The amount of water used in compaction shall be sufficient to obtain the <br /> proper density required for each soil class encountered. The amount of water required may <br /> be varied by the Owner's Representative to meet conditions brought about by storms, <br /> drought, or other causes. <br /> 2.02 EXISTING SOIL AND IMPORTED BORROW <br /> ' A. All material shall be approved for suitability. Material for fill shall be free from detrimental <br /> quantities of organic material such as leaves,grass, roots, peat,or muck. Imported structural <br /> fill shall be according to Section 02203. <br /> 2.03 WASTE MATERIAL <br /> A. Waste material shall be removed from the project site. Waste material shall be as <br /> designated by Owner's Representative as interpreted and recommended in Soils Report. <br /> B. Paved area excavated waste material to be determined by Soils Engineer. <br /> PART 3 - EXECUTION <br /> 3.01 STRIPPING AND STOCKPILING TOPSOIL <br /> A. All material,whether in cut or fill sections, that is suitable for topsoil shall be stripped from the <br /> staked limit of the project site insofar as practicable.
