2.02 BITUMINOUS MATERIAL ' <br /> A. Asphalt cement, viscosity grade AC-10, AASHTO M226, Table 2. The Contractor may use <br /> asphalt cement of penetration grade 85-100, complying with AASHTO M20. In either case, ' <br /> the grade may be changed one step by the Owner's Representative at no change in the unit <br /> price. Mixing temperature shall be from 275 degrees F. to 325 degrees F. <br /> PART 3 EXECUTION <br /> 3.01 PREPARATION OF AGGREGATE ' <br /> A. If moisture content is more than I per cent of dry weight of aggregate,dry before conveying to <br /> plan bins for proportioning. Screen aggregate into minimum of two fractions; convey into <br /> separate compartment for proportioning and mixing. ' <br /> 3.02 PREPARATION OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURE <br /> A. Combine dry aggregates in proportionate amounts of each fraction required to meet specified ' <br /> grading.Where a batching plant is used, quantity of bituminous material to be added to each <br /> batch will be as directed. Measure or gauge bituminous material and introduce into mixer in <br /> proportionate amounts determined. Aggregate temperature when introduced shall be not , <br /> more than 25 degrees F. above temperature of bituminous material. Continue mixing until all <br /> particles are coated. <br /> 3.03 MIXING PLANT ' <br /> A. Designed with storage bins, protection from weather,capability of furnishing required amount <br /> of all aggregates when operating at maximum capacity. Bins, divided into minimum of 2 <br /> compartments proportioned to insure adequate storage of appropriate fractions of aggregate. <br /> Each compartment shall be provided with an overflow pipe of size and location to prevent <br /> backing up of material into other compartments. <br /> B. Drier designed to heat and dry aggregate from 225 degrees F. to 350 degrees F.; agitating <br /> continuously during heating. Capable of preparing aggregates at rate equal to full rated <br /> capacity. Mixer, adequate capacity. Accurate thermometers to determine temperature of <br /> mix. <br /> C. Provided with weighing, volumetric, or other gauging equipment of sufficient capacity. <br /> Equipment constructed with devices permitting easy readjustment of working parts necessary <br /> for proper and accurate functioning. Weighing equipment, sealed as directed to insure <br /> accuracy. <br /> 3.04 PLACING EQUIPMENT <br /> A. Self-contained power machine requiring no supplemental shaping or finishing, Paver, , <br /> equipped with adjustable screeds and devices for heating screed to temperature required <br /> and placement of mixture without pulling or marring. Screeds and heating devices, integral <br /> parts of paving machine, not towed or pushed. <br /> 3.05 COMPACTION EQUIPMENT <br /> A. Minimum of one 8 to 10 ton steel wheel tandem roller and one self-propelled or pull type ' <br /> pneumatic roller with effective rolling width of 4 feet. Equipped with smooth tread tires of <br /> equal size and diameter. Weight of roller shall be sufficient to provide an operating weight of <br /> 300 to 450 pounds of weight per inch of track width. Operating weight of roller, as directed. <br /> 3.06 SURFACE PREPARATION <br /> A. Place asphalt on prepared base of compacted road base.
