CITY OF EVERETT SPECIAL PROVISIONS I <br /> City to reject the pipe or require Contractor to disinfect the pipe in accordance with 1 <br /> AWWA C651 and as witnessed by City Water Quality personnel prior to <br /> installation. <br /> 7-09.3(19) Connections <br /> 7-09.3(19)A Connections to Existing Mains <br /> Delete the last paragraph in 7-09.3(19)A and substitute the following: <br /> I <br /> Only City Utilities Department personnel may make connections to existing <br /> water mains after successful pressure testing, disinfection and flushing. <br /> Schedule arrangements with the City Utilities Department a minimum of five <br /> I <br /> business days in advance of making connections to the existing water main. <br /> Assemble necessary materials, equipment, and labor necessary to properly <br /> complete the Work prior to beginning the connection. <br /> I <br /> Expose the water main at the connection, including properly shoring and <br /> sheeting the excavation in accordance with requirements of WISHA, RCW <br /> 49.17 including WAC 296-155. Should City personnel determine the <br /> I <br /> excavation and shoring and sheeting do not meet the requirements of <br /> WISHA, RCW 49.17, including WAC 296-155, City personnel will notify <br /> Contractor to make necessary modifications to bring the excavation and I shoring into compliance prior to City personnel entering the trench. <br /> Repair damage to existing pipe caused by the Contractor's operations at <br /> Contractor's expense. <br /> I <br /> Proceed continuously once Work is started on a connection without <br /> interruption and as rapidly as possible until completed. City will not permit <br /> shutoff of mains overnight, over weekends, or on holidays. <br /> I <br /> Notify COE water customers affected by water shut off if the connection to the <br /> existing system involves turning off the water. Provide a minimum of 48- <br /> hours prior notice. The Engineer will advise which property owners to notify. <br /> I <br /> Depending upon the number of water customers affected by a shut-off, <br /> Contractor may need to perform the connection during times other than <br /> normal working hours. Do NOT operate valves on the existing system. Only I City Utilities Department personnel may operate water system valves. <br /> Refer to 7-12.3 of these Special Provisions for hot tap connections. <br /> 7-09.3(21) Thrust Blocking <br /> I <br /> Revise the first sentence of the first paragraph to read as follows: <br /> Place concrete thrust blocking, as noted on the Plans and described in these <br /> I <br /> Special Provisions, at bends where new ductile iron pipe connects to existing cast <br /> iron pipe. <br /> Supplement 7-09.3(21) by adding the following: I Provide mechanical joint restraining devices in place of concrete blocking on all <br /> fittings connecting ductile iron pipe to ductile iron pipe. <br /> Where shown on the Plans or as allowed by the Engineer, provide concrete thrust I blocking at bends, tees, plugs and crosses, including City installed fittings. <br /> Provide cast-in-place concrete thrust blocking having a minimum of 1/4-square <br /> foot bearing against the fitting and two square feet bearing against undisturbed I soil and be clear of joints so as to permit taking up or dismantling joint. Provide a <br /> minimum measurement of 12-inches between the pipe and the undisturbed bank <br /> for all poured in place concrete thrust blocking. Form concrete blocking and pour <br /> I <br /> using commercial concrete.
