Group B Occupancies as defined by the UBC when the <br /> occupancy has more than 3,000 square feet of gross floor <br /> 4 area; <br /> 5 3. Group E Occupancies as defined by the UBC when the <br /> occupancy has more than 3,000 square feet of gross floor <br /> 6 area; <br /> 7 4. Group R-1 Occupancies as defined by the UBC; <br /> 8 5. Group H Occupancies as defined by the UBC; and <br /> 9 6. Group I Occupancies as defined by the UBC. <br /> 10 <br /> Notwithstanding the above occupancy thresholds, buildings with gross floor <br /> 11 <br /> exceeding 3,000 square feet are required to have automatic fire detection <br /> 12 <br /> systems throughout. <br /> 13 <br /> B. An approved automatic fire suppression system is required and <br /> 14 <br /> shall be installed and maintained in an operable condition as specified in <br /> 15 <br /> this ordinance in the following locations: <br /> 16 <br /> 17 1 . Group A Occupancies as defined by the UBC when the <br /> occupancy has more than 6,000 square feet of gross floor <br /> 18 area; provided, however, area separation walls may be <br /> utilized to create separate buildings for the purpose of <br /> 19 gross floor area calculation but the gross floor area of <br /> the building shall not exceed 12,000 square feet without an <br /> 20 automatic fire suppression system. <br /> 21 Exception: Drinking and dining establishments shall have <br /> an automatic fire suppression system installed in rooms <br /> 22 used by the occupants for the consumption of alcoholic <br /> beverages and unseparated accessory uses where the total <br /> 23 area of such unseparated rooms and assembly uses exceed <br /> 5,000 square feet. For uses to be considered as separated, <br /> 24 the separation shall not be less than as required for a <br /> one-hour occupancy separation. The area of other uses <br /> 25 shall be included unless separated by at least a one-hour <br /> occupancy separation; <br /> 26 <br /> 2. Group B Occupancies as defined by the UBC when the <br /> 27 occupancy has more than 6,000 square feet of gross floor <br /> area; provided, however, area separation walls may be <br /> 28 utilized to create separate buildings for the purpose of <br /> gross floor area calculation but the gross floor area of <br /> 29 the building shall not exceed 12,000 square feet without an <br /> automatic fire suppression system; <br /> 30 <br /> 3.
