Group R-1 Occupancies as defined by the UBC. An automatic <br /> fire suppression system shall be installed throughout every <br /> 5 apartment house three or more stories in height or <br /> containing more than four dwelling units and every hotel <br /> 6 three or more stories in height or containing six or more <br /> guest rooms. Residential or quick response standard <br /> sprinkler heads shall be used in the dwelling unit and <br /> 7 guest room portions of the building. Notwithstanding the <br /> 8 above occupancy thresholds, buildings with gross floor area <br /> exceeding 6,000 square feet are required to have automatic <br /> 9 fire suppression systems throughout.The automatic fire <br /> suppression system shall comply with the requirements of <br /> 10 the Washington State Building Code Standard No. 38-3W; <br /> provided, however, area separation walls may be utilized to <br /> 11 create separate buildings for the purpose of gross floor <br /> area calculation but the gross floor area of the building <br /> l2 shall not exceed 12,000 square feet without an automatic <br /> fire suppression system; <br /> 13 5. Group H Occupancies as defined by the UBC; and <br /> 14 6. Group I Occupancies as defined by the UBC. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 Section 4: Installation. <br /> 17 All approved automatic fire suppression systems and approved automatic <br /> 18 fire detection systems shall be installed in accordance with the appropriate <br /> 19 UBC, Uniform Fire Code, National Fire Protection Standards, and Washington <br /> 20 State Building Code Standards. <br /> 21 Section 5: Alterations, Repairs and Building Additions. <br /> 22 The provisions of this ordinance shall apply to all new buildings. <br /> 23 Further, the provisions of this ordinance shall also apply to all existing <br /> 24 buildings which are altered or repaired when such alteration or repair <br /> 25 within any seventy (70) month period equals or exceeds fifty percent (50%) <br /> 26 of the assessed value of the building as established by the Snohomish County <br /> 27 Assessor at the time of initial permit application. <br /> 28 Section 6: Change of Occupancy. <br /> 29 If the occupancy of a building changes as defined in Section 502 of the <br /> 30 UBC to one which requires an automatic fire suppression system, the system <br /> 31 shall be installed prior to the new occupancy being allowed. <br /> 32 <br /> 4 <br />
