• <br /> 1 E. Rates must be established for: <br /> 2 1 . Initial drop on all trips including the first one-fifth of a mile <br /> of travel ; and <br /> 3 <br /> 2. Distance based on uniform increments of one-fifth of a mile. <br /> 4 <br /> F. Discount Rates - All discounts on fares must be filed with the City <br /> 5 Clerk setting forth the conditions that must be met to qualify for the <br /> discount. All discounts must be expressed as a percentage discount of <br /> 6 the filed rate. <br /> 7 G. Contract rates - The rates specified in this section for taxicabs and <br /> for-hire vehicles shall not apply to transportation of persons provided <br /> 8 pursuant to a written contract which establishes a fare at a different <br /> rate for specified transportation which has been entered into prior to <br /> 9 the passenger's request for transportation and has been approved by the <br /> City Clerk; provided, that no contract may include any provision(s) the <br /> 10 effect of which is to directly or indirectly require exclusive use of <br /> the transportation services of the contracting taxicab or for-hire <br /> 11 vehicle. The contract shall not exceed one year. <br /> 12 Section 24: POSTING OF SCHEDULE OF FARES <br /> 13 A. Interior of For-Hire Vehicle. The owner of every for-hire vehicle <br /> shall cause to be posted and mainatined in a conspicuous location in <br /> 14 the passenger's compartment of said vehicle a card of form, size and <br /> color approved by the Everett Director of Weights and Measures on which <br /> 15 shall be shown a schedule of rates including the listing of drop, <br /> mileage, waiting time, extras, and discounts, which rates shall not be <br /> 16 in excess of amounts fixed by this ordinance. <br /> 17 B. Exterior of Taxis and Special Service Vehicles. A permanently affixed <br /> sign indicating the rates as set forth herein shall be posted on both <br /> 18 sides of the vehicle and be clearly readable from the side of the <br /> vehicle. The sign shall be located on the upper half of the body, <br /> 19 below the window line affixed to the rear door; or when unavailable, <br /> placed immeditely adjacent to the rear door. The lettering shall be no <br /> 20 smaller than three-fourths inches except for one-half inch minimum for <br /> "cents" rates, and shall be on a contrasting background. The Director <br /> 21 of Weights and Measures may make available examples of such posting <br /> requirements indicating the allowable format and content of the signs <br /> 22 and cards as required by this section. <br /> 23 Section 25: RIGHT TO REQUIRE PROOF OF SUFFICIENT FUNDS - CARRYING MORE <br /> THAN ONE FARE <br /> 24 <br /> A. Every driver of a for-hire vehicle shall have the right to demand proof <br /> 25 that the passenger has sufficient funds to pay his fare. It is <br /> unlawful for any driver to refuse to accept as a passenger any person <br /> 26 of proper deportment who requests transportation when the for-hire <br /> vehicle is not already engaged, or discriminate against any person <br /> 27 because of religion, race, creed, color, national origin, sex, marital <br /> status, mental or sensory handicap, or age. <br /> 28 <br /> B. It is unlawful for the driver of a taxicab to carry any other person <br /> 29 other than the passenger first employing the taxicab without the <br /> consent of such passenger. <br /> 30 <br /> Section 26: FRAUD OR REFUSAL TO PAY FARE UNLAWFUL <br /> 31 <br /> It is unlawful for any person to refuse to pay the regular fare of any <br /> 32 <br /> for-hire vehicle after having hired the same.
