• <br /> 1 <br /> Section 20: Work Limited to Authorized Personnel. <br /> 2 <br /> Only authorized employees of the Utilities Division shall be allowed to <br /> 3 <br /> tap existing water mains and install service pipes between the water main <br /> 4 <br /> and the service cock or meter, or to connect pipes where they have been <br /> 5 <br /> disconnected, or to shut water off or turn water on to any premises. <br /> 6 <br /> Section 21: Service Materials and Installation Standards. <br /> 7 <br /> A. Service Pipe Material. Service pipe material shall be as specified <br /> 8 in the current Standard Specifications of the Public Works Department <br /> between the main and the service cock or meter, for three-fourth-inch, <br /> 9 one-inch, and two-inch service connections. Ductile iron pipe or other <br /> materials allowed by the current Standard Specifications of the Public <br /> 10 Works Department shall be used for service pipe material between the <br /> main and the meter for services larger than two inches in diameter <br /> 11 except for those installations approved by the Utilities <br /> Superintendent. The service pipe material on the customer's side of <br /> 12 the service cock or meter may be any material permitted in the plumbing <br /> code of the City. <br /> 13 <br /> B. Diameters. The diameter of any tap made to any water main and the <br /> 14 diameter of the service pipe between such main and the service cock or <br /> meter shall be subject to the approval of the Utilities Superintendent, <br /> 15 except that normally no tap nor service pipe shall be less than <br /> three-fourths inch in diameter. <br /> 16 <br /> C. Depth. All service connection piping located on the customer's <br /> 17 premises or private property other than public streets, utility <br /> easements and rights-of-way shall be installed not less than <br /> 18 twenty-four inches below the surface of the ground and not less than <br /> thirty inches below the surface on public streets, utility easements <br /> 19 and rights-of-way. No service piping between the building and the <br /> location of the service cock or meter shall be buried or covered until <br /> 20 it has been inspected and accepted by the Utilities Division or the <br /> Plumbing Inspector. <br /> 21 <br /> Section 22: Stop and Waste Valves. <br /> 22 <br /> Customers shall, at their own expense, install and maintain all pipes, <br /> 23 <br /> connections and fixtures from the service cock or meter placed by the <br /> 24 <br /> Utilities Division. All pipes must be provided with stop and waste valves, <br /> 25 <br /> protected from freezing, and accessible at all times to the customer, in <br /> 26 <br /> such a manner that the pipes may be drained to prevent freezing and the <br /> 27 <br /> water may be shut off for repairs to service pipes, fixtures and appliances, <br /> 28 <br /> and also to safeguard premises from water damage in case the service cock or <br /> 29 <br /> meter is accidentally turned on. Additional stop and waste valves shall <br /> 30 <br /> also be placed at all low points in the pipes when they cannot be otherwise <br /> 31 <br /> drained. Each outside hose bib shall be preceded by an additional stop and <br /> 32 <br /> 8 <br />
