' <br /> E. Where cutting is necessary, review conditions with the ENGINEER before proceeding, and <br /> comply with directives of ENGINEER. I <br /> 3.3 EXCAVATION AROUND TREES <br /> A. Excavate within drip lines of trees only where indicated on the Drawings or as directed by <br /> ENGINEER. <br /> B. Use trench boxes to decrease area of disturbance.• <br /> 1 <br /> C. Use root friendly soil excavation equipment such as pneumatic air compressor or low impact <br /> vactor. I <br /> D. Provide clean cut of roots using a saw. <br /> E. Where trenching for utilities is required within drip lines,tunnel under or around roots by hand <br /> excavating. <br /> 1. Where possible trench toward trunk of tree and tunnel under central root mass to avoid <br /> severing all lateral roots on side of trench. <br /> 2. Do not cut main lateral roots or tap roots over one inch in diameter. 111 <br /> 3. Temporarily support and protect trees from damage until permanently covered with <br /> approved backfill. <br /> F. Do not allow exposed roots to dry out before backfill is placed. <br /> 1. Provide temporary earth or burlap cover. <br /> 2. Water roots daily when exposed and maintain in a moist condition. ' <br /> G. Backfill roots only upon inspection approval from the ENGINEER. <br /> 111 <br /> 1. Backfill around root excavations only with clean imported topsoil free from materials <br /> deleterious to root growth. <br /> 2.
