I <br /> D. Prepare Site only after: <br /> ' 1. Erosion and sediment controls are in place. <br /> a. Limit areas exposed uncontrolled to erosion during installation of temporary erosion <br /> and sediment controls and in compliance with COP Erosion and Sediment Control <br /> Manual and ESC Permits. <br /> 2. Tree and vegetation protection is installed. <br /> a. Protect existing site improvements, trees and shrubs to remain to preclude damage <br /> ' during construction. <br /> b. Follow the provisions set forth in 01 56 39, Tree and Plant Protection for all <br /> ' temporary tree and plant protection measures. <br /> 3. Temporary fencing is installed along the Limits of Disturbance. <br /> 4 Notification of utility agencies; disconnect or arrange for disconnection of utilities (if <br /> any) affected by required work. Keep all active utilities intact and in continuous <br /> operation. <br /> 3.4 PROTECTION <br /> A. Utilities: Locate, identify,and protect utilities located by utilities and indicated in the <br /> Drawings to remain from damage. <br /> B. Survey control: Protect bench marks, survey control points, and existing structures from <br /> damage or displacement. <br /> C. Preservation and Trimming of Trees, Shrubs and Other Vegetation: <br /> 1. Avoid injury to trees, shrubs, vines, plants, grasses and other vegetation growing outside <br /> of the areas to be cleared and grubbed and those trees and shrubs designated to be <br /> preserved. <br /> 2 Protect existing trees and shrubs against cutting, breaking or skinning of roots, skinning <br /> and bruising of bark, smothering of roots by stockpiling construction materials, excavated <br /> materials, excess foot or vehicular traffic and parking of vehicles within drip line. <br /> 3. Provide temporary guards, as necessary, to protect trees and vegetation to be left <br /> standing. <br /> 4 Temporarily cover exposed roots with wet burlap to prevent roots from drying out; cover <br /> with earth as soon as possible. <br /> 5. Provide protection for roots and limbs over 1 1/2-inch diameter cut during construction <br /> operations. Coat cut faces with emulsified asphalt. <br /> 6. Repairable damage to trees and shrubs designated to remain shall be made by a <br /> professional tree surgeon approved by the Engineer.
