Plug all abandoned pipes with permanent plugs as specified in Section 33 11 50, <br /> Existing Pipe Abandonment. <br /> 2. Sumps: I <br /> a. Remove existing sediment, soil, and water. Properly dispose of these materials in <br /> accordance with the requirements of these specifications. <br /> 111 <br /> b. Remove top cone and first solid concrete section to a depth of approximately 8 to 10 <br /> feet below ground. <br /> c. Fill sump with CLSM. <br /> d. Backfill remaining voids for facilities within existing or proposed roadways with <br /> approved materials meeting the requirements of Section 32 11 23,Mineral Aggregates. <br /> 3. Salvaging Manhole Frames, Covers, and Grates: <br /> a. Remove manhole frames, covers, and grates scheduled for salvage and store in <br /> approved location. <br /> b. Frames, grates, and covers meeting Specifications may be salvaged from structures to <br /> be adjusted and may be reused in the Work if of suitable size and condition. <br /> c. Replace,at no additional cost to the Owner,all items damaged or lost by the Contractor <br /> with similar items that are comparable in all respects with those they are to replace, <br /> and which are adequate for the intended purpose. <br /> d. Clean salvaged components to be reused of foreignmaterial bymethods that will not <br /> g P <br /> harm the components. <br /> 4. Existing Manhole Frames and Covers: Manhole frames and covers removed by the <br /> Contractor are the property of the Owner. Notify the Engineer a minimum of 48 hours <br /> before removal to arrange for pickup of the removed frames and covers, if not reused. j <br /> 3.4 PRESERVATION OF EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS <br /> A. Protect adjacent existing structures which may be damaged by excavation work. <br /> 1.
