Open slopes shall not be cut within 5 feet of any existing spread footings unless approved <br /> by the Engineer. <br /> 3. Do not interfere with 45 degree bearing splay of foundations unless approved by the <br /> Engineer <br /> 4. Excavated material shall not be placed adjacent to existing or proposed structures. <br /> 3.5 EXCAVATION <br /> A. General: <br /> 1. Method of excavation shall be the Contractor's option,but care shall be exercised as final <br /> grade is approached to leave it in undisturbed condition. <br /> 2. If the final grade for supporting structures is disturbed, it shall be restored to requirements <br /> of these Specifications and satisfaction of the Engineer at no additional cost to Owner. <br /> 3. The Contractor is advised that footings should be poured as soon as possible to minimize <br /> unfavorable final grade conditions from developing. <br /> 4. Provide all measures to ensure public safety. <br /> B. Control of Water <br /> 1. Provide and maintain equipment to remove and dispose of water during the course of the <br /> work of this Section and keep excavations dry and free of frost or ice. <br /> 2. Bearing surfaces that become softened by water or frost must be re-excavated to solid <br /> bearing at Contractor's expense and backfilled with compacted crushed rock at <br /> Contractor's expense. <br /> 3. Grade top perimeter of excavation to prevent surface water from draining into excavation. <br /> 1 4. See additional requirements in Section 31 23 19,Dewatering. <br /> C. Frozen Ground: Frost protection shall be provided for all structural excavation <br /> work. Foundation work shall not be placed on frozen ground. <br /> D.
