CITY OF EVERETT SPECIAL PROVISIONS <br /> Place bark mulch over all planting areas to the depth shown on the Plans. <br /> Thoroughly water and hose down plants with a fine spray to wash the leaves of <br /> ' the plants immediately after application. <br /> 8-02.3(13) Plant Establishment <br /> Supplement 8-02.3(13) by adding the following: <br /> Plant establishment consists of insuring resumption and continued growth of all <br /> planted material including hydroseed for a period of one year. This includes, but is <br /> ' not limited to, labor and materials necessary for removal and replacement of any <br /> rejected plant material planted under this Contract. The Contractor shall be <br /> responsible for watering all hydroseed areas and planting areas sufficiently to <br /> establish and maintain a thriving condition throughout the duration of the plant <br /> ' establishment period. <br /> 8-02.3(16) Lawn Installation <br /> 8-02.3(16)A Lawn Installation <br /> ' Delete 8-02.3(16)A and substitute the following: <br /> 8-02.3(16)A Lawn Installation — Sod <br /> ' Install sod in irrigated areas only after the irrigation system is fully operational. <br /> Unless the Engineer approves otherwise, install sod between March 1 and <br /> ' October 1. Place sod strips within 48-hours of being cut. Place strips without <br /> voids and stagger the end joints. Roll sod with a smooth roller following <br /> placement to ensure good contact with the soil. <br /> ' During the establishment period, erect barriers, with warning signs where <br /> necessary, to preclude pedestrian traffic over the newly placed sod. <br /> Prepare areas for sod in accordance with standard horticultural practices as <br /> follows: <br /> ' 1. Rototill, or otherwise cultivate, to a minimum depth of 4-inches into the <br /> ground surface. Thoroughly incorporate a 10-2-10 fertilizer in the <br /> rototilling process at a rate of 4 pounds of available Nitrogen per 1000 <br /> ' square feet. <br /> 2. Rake the surface to even grade without low spots to trap water and round <br /> surface to match surroundings. <br /> 3. Add topsoil as required by the design. <br /> NOTE: Topsoil will be paid for separately if required. <br /> 4. Lightly dampen and compact the finished grade. <br /> t 5. Install sod taking care to butt each piece tightly against the adjacent one. <br /> Stagger butt joints. Lay sod on sloped areas with the long dimension <br /> parallel to the toe or top of slope. After placing, roll the sod and sprinkle <br /> heavily with water. <br /> ' 6. Provide tools specially designed for the work and satisfactory to the <br /> Engineer. <br /> 7. Water and fertilize the sod during the 90 days establishment period. <br /> Schedule watering to prevent joints from drying between sod strips. <br /> Apply 6-2-4 fertilizer at 6 week intervals at the rate of 1 to 1-1/2 pounds <br /> of available Nitrogen per 1,000 square feet per application. <br /> Where Shown that sod is to be replaced, the work shall consist of the removal and <br /> replacement of existing lawn turf by cutting the sod to be removed into convenient <br /> sized squares or strips to uniform thickness, piling and storing in a dampened <br /> condition, and finally replacing the sod in its original position.
