All calculations, surveying, and measuring required for setting <br /> 2 and maintaining the necessary lines shall be the Contractor's responsibility. <br /> I 3 <br /> 4 Preliminary spotting shall be provided at a spacing of 40 foot maximum on <br /> 5 tangents and 25 foot maximum on curves and tapers. All curves, tapers, stop <br /> 1 6 lines, and crosswalks shall be laid out with a rope. Field layout for curves and <br /> 7 tapers shall use an 800' minimum length rope. The color of the material used <br /> 8 for preliminary spotting shall be white. Longitudinal marking shall be parallel <br /> I 9 with the proposed line applied with a paint marker wand or other approved <br /> 10 method, a minimum of 6 inches in length and wide enough so that a minimum <br /> 11 of two marks can be clearly seen at night under ordinary headlight conditions. <br /> I 12 Refreshing of marks prior to striping shall be the responsibility of the <br /> 13 Contractor. <br /> 14 <br /> I 15 Striping layout shall be performed by, or under the direct supervision of, <br /> 16 personnel certified by IMSA as a Signs and Marking Specialist Level I or <br /> 17 higher. Personnel performing the field layout and preliminary spotting shall be <br /> 18 proficient in the practice of striping layout, including layout and preliminary <br /> I19 spotting of curves and tapers using a rope and paint wand, proper annotation <br /> 20 on the pavement of starts, stops, and changes in line type for pavement <br /> 21 markings, and an understanding of WSDOT Standard Plans and City Standard <br /> 1 22 Drawings for pavement markings. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Survey personnel performing the calculations, notes, and layout data shall be <br /> I 25 on site to answer questions regarding the layout notes as the roadway is being <br /> 26 spotted or shall perform the work. In the event a revision is required by the <br /> 27 Contracting Agency during field layout, either to correct errors in the notes or to <br /> I 28 make minor revision noted in the ordinary progress of the work, field layout <br /> 29 shall be performed by the Contractor at the time. <br /> 30 <br /> I 31 All field layout shall be completed during the same shift as the striping is <br /> 32 obliterated by grinding or paving unless otherwise directed by the Engineer. <br /> 33 Any striping revisions directed by the Contracting Agency at the time of <br /> 34 preliminary spotting shall be documented in the striping notes and submitted to <br /> I35 the Contracting Agency. Any revisions requested to the field layout following <br /> 36 approval will be the responsibility of the Contracting Agency. <br /> 37 <br /> I 38 Permanent pavement marking shall not begin until the layout is approved by <br /> 39 the Contracting Agency.
