• 1 or revocation. If no appeal is taken, the suspension or revocation shall be final. 2 Section 16: DRIVER'S REQUIREMENTS. It shall be unlawful for any persons 3 other than paying passengers and the driver thereof to occupy any for-hire vehicle, 4 provided that this section shall not prohibit the carrying of other employees of the 5 owner of said taxicab when acting within the scope of his business, nor prohibit the 6 making of necessary repairs. 7 It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in any work or employment for 8 more than twelve hours in any twenty-four hour period of time during any part of which 9 he is engaged in the occupation of driver for a for-hire vehicle. 10 Section 17: INSPECTION. Each vehicle for hire shall be equipped and main- 11 ain-il tained at all times by the owner or operator for safety, cleanliness and lawful operation 12 and in accordance with the laws of the City and the state and shall be furnished with 13 such equipment as the Chief of Police shall deem necessary for such safe operation. All 14 vehicles for hire, prior to being licensed under the provisions of this chapter shall be 15 inspected and approved by the Chief of Police or his designee. The Chief of Police or 16 his designee shall have authority to make routine inspections from time to time as he 17 deems necessary and appropriate. The Chief of Police or his designee shall have 18 authority to promulgate inspection regulations which shall be filed in the office of the 19 City Clerk. The items to be inspected shall be listed on a form to be provided by the 20 Chief of Police or his designee. Each item on said list shall be in satisfactory condition 21 before any license shall issue or be renewed under the provisions of this chapter. 22 Section 18: TAXIMETER REQUIREMENTS. 23 A. It shall be unlawful for any person to drive or operate, or engage in the 24 busines of operating, taxicabs, unless each of said taxicabs is equipped with an 25 instrument or device by which the charge for hire of such taxicab is mechanically 26 measured or calculated either for the distance traveled by such vehicle or for waiting 27 time, or for both, and upon which such charges shall be indicated by means of figures, 28 such instrument or device to be hereinafter referred to as a taximeter; and it shall be 29 unlawful for any person operating or driving, or engaged in the business of operating, a 30 taxicab or taxicabs, to charge, use, demand, collect, or receive any fare, rate or charge 31 32 -8-
