July 30, 2018
HWA Project No. 2016-044-21
• Evaluate Slope Stability: Global stability of the subsurface soils shall be evaluated at
where the utilities are proposed to cross steep slopes. Global stability shall be evaluated
using limit equilibrium methods consistent with the WSDOT GDM.
• Develop Utility Recommendations: HWA shall evaluate the soil conditions along the
proposed utility alignment and generate recommendations associated with utility trenching,
temporary shoring, backfilling, dewatering and possible over-excavation or use of light
weight backfill, as appropriate.
• Evaluate Lift Station Foundation Vertical Capacity: HWA will perform analyses of the
lift station foundation vertical capacities using the methods outlined in the Washington
State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Geotechnical Design Manual (GDM).
• Generate Lift Station Temporary Shoring Lateral Earth Pressures: HWA will
develop and provide temporary shoring lateral earth pressure diagrams for construction of
the proposed lift station structure.
• Generate Lift Station Permanent Lateral Earth Pressures: HWA will develop and
provide lateral earth pressure recommendations for proposed lift station structure. Earth
pressure diagrams for both static and seismic loading conditions shall be generated using
the procedures outlined in the WSDOT GDM.
• Internal QA/QC: HWA will have all design calculations and recommendations reviewed
by a senior principal prior to distribution to the design team or the City.
• Geotechnical Engineering Report: HWA will generate a draft and final geotechnical
engineering reports that will contain the results of the geotechnical engineering
investigation, including description of surface and subsurface conditions; a site plan
showing exploration locations and other pertinent features; summary boring logs; and
laboratory test results. The report will provide a narrative and geotechnical
recommendations for each of the above described geotechnical aspects of the project.
• Plan Review: HWA will conduct a plan review to ensure that the geotechnical aspects of
the project have been properly incorporated into the project plans.
• Project Coordination Meetings: HWA will attend up to two (2) project coordination
meeting at the City of Everett offices. This meeting will be meant to convey the
geotechnical considerations of the site to the City and possible design team.
HWA Scope
