2. Protection of existing trees by chemical treatment of insect infestation and disease. 3 . Replacement of existing trees having undesirable growth or location, or chronic infestations of, insect pests or disease . 4 . Planning and planting of trees for future benefit of the citizens of Everett. 5 . Approval of all plantings of trees by others on public property. 6. Approval of all work done by others on trees on public property. B. Work Done by Others 1. All work done to trees on public property by any agency, public or private, shall first be authorized by a permit issued by the Director, upon satisfactory compliance with the following criteria : a . Selection of trees to be planted shall be in accordance with the City of Everett' s approved list of desirable species. b. Location of trees to be planted shall be approved on site by the Director after receipt of drawings showing existing utilities and structures and their proximity to proposed planting locations and recommendation by the Traffic Engineer on effect of the proposed plantings on sight distance, fixed object hazard, street lighting effectiveness and other traffic hazards. Permits shall only be approved for planting locations which do not adversely affect any of these items . Permits shall be obtained from and submitted to the City of Everett Building Department. c. Pruning or trimming works shall be approved on site by the Director. d. All work shall be done according to accepted arbori- cultural practices and shall be subject to inspection by the Director. e. Permit shall be issued for a defined period of time, and if work is not completed within that time, application must be re-submitted. f . Permit shall require the applicant to hold and save the city harmless from any and all damage or injury which might arise as either the direct or indirect result of the applicant' s activities on public property during the duration of the permit. 2 -
