Cracks 1/4 inch to 1 inch in width - fill with hot poured sealant. <br /> 11 B. Cracks greater than 1 inch in width — fill with sand slurry. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 5-04.3(4)B Vacant <br /> I 14 <br /> 15 5-04.3(4)C Pavement Repair <br /> 16 The Contractor shall excavate pavement repair areas and shall backfill these with HMA <br /> 17 in accordance with the details shown in the Plans and as marked in the field. The <br /> 18 Contractor shall conduct the excavation operations in a manner that will protect the <br /> 19 pavement that is to remain. Pavement not designated to be removed that is damaged as <br /> I 20 a result of the Contractor's operations shall be repaired by the Contractor to the <br /> 21 satisfaction of the Engineer at no cost to the Contracting Agency. The Contractor shall <br /> 22 excavate only within one lane at a time unless approved otherwise by the Engineer. The <br /> I 23 Contractor shall not excavate more area than can be completely finished during the <br /> 24 same shift, unless approved by the Engineer. <br /> 25 <br /> I 26 Unless otherwise shown in the Plans or determined by the Engineer, excavate to a <br /> 27 depth of 1.0 feet. The Engineer will make the final determination of the excavation depth <br /> 28 required. The minimum width of any pavement repair area shall be 40 inches unless <br /> I 29 shown otherwise in the Plans. Before any excavation, the existing pavement shall be <br /> 30 sawcut or shall be removed by a pavement grinder. Excavated materials will become the <br /> 31 property of the Contractor and shall be disposed of in a Contractor-provided site off the <br /> I 32 Right of Way or used in accordance with Sections 2-02.3(3) or 9-03.21. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Asphalt for tack coat shall be required as specified in Section 5-04.3(4). A heavy <br /> 35 application of tack coat shall be applied to all surfaces of existing pavement in the <br /> 36 pavement repair area. <br /> 37 <br /> I 38 Placement of the HMA backfill shall be accomplished in lifts not to exceed 0.35-foot <br /> 39 compacted depth. Lifts that exceed 0.35-foot of compacted depth may be accomplished <br /> 40 with the approval of the Engineer. Each lift shall be thoroughly compacted by a <br /> I41 mechanical tamper or a roller. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 5-04.3(5) Producing/Stockpiling Aggregates and RAP <br /> I44 Aggregates and RAP shall be stockpiled according to the requirements of Section 3-02. <br /> 45 Sufficient storage space shall be provided for each size of aggregate and RAP. Materials <br /> 46 shall be removed from stockpile(s) in a manner to ensure minimal segregation when <br /> N.
