I <br /> 1 1 <br /> 2 • Construction procedures <br /> 3 <br /> 4 • Plan details of the area to be repaired <br /> 5 <br /> 6 • Calculations for Type 2E Working Drawings <br /> 7 <br /> 8 Material manufacturer's instructions and recommendations shall supersede any <br /> 9 conflicting requirements in pre-approved repair procedures. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 The Engineer shall be notified prior to performing any repair procedure and shall be <br /> 12 given an opportunity to inspect the repair work being performed. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 6-01.16(2) Pre-Approved Repair Procedures <br /> 15 6-01.16(2)A Concrete Spalls and Poor Consolidation (Rock Pockets, <br /> 16 Honeycombs, Voids, etc.) I 17 This repair shall be limited to the following areas: <br /> 18 <br /> 19 • Areas that are not on top Roadway surfaces (with or without an <br /> 20 overlay) including but not limited to concrete bridge decks, bridge <br /> 21 approach slabs or cement concrete pavement <br /> 22 r 23 • Areas that are not underwater <br /> 24 <br /> 25 • Areas that are not on precast barrier, except for the bottom 4 inches <br /> 26 (but not to exceed 1 inch above blockouts) <br /> 27 <br /> 28 • Areas that do not affect structural adequacy as determined by the <br /> 29 Engineer. I <br /> 30 <br /> 31 The repair procedure is as follows: <br /> 32 <br /> III <br /> 33 1. Remove all loose and unsound concrete. Impact breakers shall not <br /> 34 exceed 15 pounds in weight when removing concrete adjacent to <br /> 35 reinforcement or other embedments and shall not exceed 30 pounds I 36 in weight otherwise. Operate impact breakers at angles less than 45 <br /> 37 degrees as measured from the surface of the concrete to the tool and <br /> 38 moving away from the edge of the defective Work. Concrete shall be <br /> I <br /> 39 completely removed from exposed surfaces of existing steel <br /> 40 reinforcing bars. If half or more of the circumference of any steel <br /> 41 reinforcing bar is exposed, if the reinforcing bar is loose or if the bond <br /> I <br /> 42 to existing concrete is poor then concrete shall be removed at least 3/4 <br /> 43 inch behind the reinforcing bar. Do not damage any existing <br /> 44 reinforcement. Stop work and allow the Engineer to inspect the repair <br /> 45 area after removing all loose and unsound concrete. Submit a modified <br /> 46 repair procedure when required by the Engineer. <br /> 47 <br /> 48 2. Square the edges of the repair area by cutting an edge perpendicular <br /> I <br /> 49 to the concrete surface around the repair area. The geometry of the <br /> 50 repair perimeter shall minimize the edge length and shall be <br /> 51 rectangular with perpendicular edges, avoiding reentrant corners. The <br /> I <br />
