1 <br /> 1.4 WORK SEQUENCE 111 <br /> A. The Contractor shall organize and plan the construction activities to assure the safety and <br /> reliability of and to minimize the interruption to the electric system and all other utilities. <br /> B. The proposed Work sequence shall be submitted to the Engineer in the Schedule of <br /> Construction. <br /> C. The sequence of work shall be conducted according to the following requirements: <br /> 1. The FEN Pump Station and associated lagoon treatments system operates under two general <br /> seasons as part of the National Point Discharge Elimination System(NPDES)assigned <br /> permit. These seasons are designated as follows for the purpose of this project: <br /> a. Winter Season: October—June <br /> b. Summer Season: July—September <br /> 2. Appendix A includes the project geotechnical report. <br /> 3. Appendix B includes the current permit for reference purposes. <br /> 4. The Contractor shall allow for unrestricted operation for all components of the FEN system <br /> by the City during the Winter Season. <br /> 5. During the Summer Season,the FEN system may be shut down(effluent flow stopped)to <br /> allow for construction activities. Maintenance access to the FEN system for the Owner shall <br /> be maintained at all times. <br /> 6. The Sequence of Work for the project, as developed by the Contractor, shall abide by the <br /> requirements of this Section and account for the following specific restrictions: 111 <br /> a. Construction of the permanent sheet pile wall,dike expansion and roadway <br /> modifications shall be completed prior to any construction of the culvert, Chlorine <br /> Building, or buried utilities. <br /> 1) Contractor shall build up the grade of the entire site(see Drawing G11), including <br /> the footprint of the new chlorine building and culvert and conduct pre-loading per <br /> the criteria outlined in Section 31 23 00 and Appendix A. Final grading after pre- <br /> loading, including replacement fill for settlement, can be accomplished within the <br /> constraints of this Section. <br /> 2) Test piles for the Chlorine Building,per Section 31 62 13, can be constructed in <br /> parallel with the pre-loading period when approved by the Engineer. <br /> b. Demolition and replacement of the existing effluent manhole structure and diffuser <br /> valves shall be completed during the Summer Season. Once demolition of the existing <br /> structure has occurred,the new structure and new diffuser valves shall be Substantially <br /> Complete before the start of the next Winter Season. 111 <br /> c. Demolition and replacement of the existing culvert pipes and replacement with the new <br /> box culvert between the Polishing Pond and Chlorine Contact Channel shall be <br /> completed during the Summer Season. Once demolition of the existing culvert pipes <br /> has occurred,the new culvert shall be Substantially Complete before the start of the <br /> next Winter Season. <br /> • <br /> 1) Initial operation of the culvert shall include all components of the culvert design <br /> with the exception of the chlorine/carrier water diffuser piping.
